Today, we cast the spotlight on Tom Gensch, Software Engineer at 3D Spark GmbH. In this article, Tom shares his role at 3D Spark in enhancing algorithm stability and improving manufacturing assurance. He shares insights from his experiences in the aerospace industry and the importance of simplifying complex processes through intuitive software solutions. 1.     What is your role on the 3D Spark team?

Tom: I am mainly focused on making our algorithms more stable and implementing and improving the manufacturability assurance feature of the 3D Spark platform.

2.     Importance of the 3D Spark Platform according to you?

Tom: In my time as a working student in the aerospace industry, I always hated how much effort was put into developing almost redundant Excel sheets that were hard to understand. Therefore, providing an out-of-the-box solution for decision-making and instant quoting with a proper user experience is the key asset of our software to me.

3.     A feature you look forward to implement in the 3D Spark platform and why ?

Tom: Generally, all manufacturability assurances are great fun to work on. I am particularly looking forward to implementing more of these checks for a broader range of manufacturing technologies (e.g. metal sheet works, casting, milling, etc.) in order to make our decision-making process even more accurate.

4.     What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Tom: Try to find out which type of work brings you joy and be grateful if your job matches that.

5.     What are your hobbies?

Tom: I used to play drums and go sailing, both with some effort. Now that I’m getting older and leisure time is becoming scarcer, I still try to do sports. Also, being in nature helps me to take my mind off things.
